After hearing about Bear Lake for several years we finally made a trip there to go camping! We went with our long-time friends the Greens, who are the most organized campers you could imagine. You should have seen their van packed to the roof! We stayed in Caribou-Targhee National Forest at Porcupine campground which is in the mountains above Bear Lake and it was awesome! Great camping among the trees and then lots of fun down at the beach! Although I do have to record for posterity that of course we didn't sleep well (is it possible to sleep well in a tent, especially with small kids?), the beach was kind of mucky and not as nice as described, all of us were filthy (especially the kids) within minutes of setting up camp, and it poured rain our second night so I couldn't wait to leave at the end of the weekend, but that's how camping just is, right? Lots of fun, but enough discomfort to make you REALLY grateful to go home :)
